Useful Tips, Tricks & Shortcuts:

First we will start off with some of the obvious short-cuts:

Windows keyboard Short-Cuts:

  • WIN-KEY + R: Opens the Run command window
  • WIN-KEY + E: Opens Windows Explorer
  • WIN-KEY + F: Opens the Windows Search window
  • WIN-KEY + L: Locks Windows and brings up the Logon Screen
  • WIN-KEY + +/=: Opens the Windows Magnifier
  • WIN-KEY + RIGHT Arrow: Fills right half of screen with open app
  • WIN-KEY + LEFT Arrow: Fills left half of screen with open app
  • WIN-KEY + HOME: Minimizes all open apps except active app
  • WIN-KEY + SPACE: Makes all open apps transparent (as long as you hold down the WIN-KEY)
  • CTRL + A: Selects ALL
  • CTRL + C: Copy
  • CTRL + V: Paste
  • CTRL + Z: Undo
  • CTRL + B: Bold
  • CTRL + U: Underline
  • CTRL + I: Italic
  • CTRL + SHIFT + Click: While launching an application from the Taskbar or start menu will open with full administrative rights
  • ALT + F4: Close current active window
  • ALT + P: Inside the Windows Explorer activates an additional file preview pane

Windows 7 Extras

  • Find extra background image files and themes: Open your Windows Explorer, type the following in the address bar at the top C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT or you can just highlight and copy and paste. You should see several folders of different countries images (ie. MCT-GB is Great Britain)
  • The calculator has been put on steroids. Open the calculator (Click the Start button, type calc, press the ENTER key) Click view on the calculator and play with the different options. Don't forget to look at the Worksheets at the bottom. There you can calculate Mortgages, Vehicle Lease, & Fuel Economy... Very nice!
